Cutting up the FUN!
by Juliann Marchant

What could be more fun then cutting everything in sight with a scissor?? Nuttin' in my book! On this page I went to town with my cutting!!

Don't be afraid Just JUMP right in!

I used my Pink BoBunny scissor to cut the Hambly, the Bazzill star (then I backstitched to make it POP a bit), and I cut the 7Gypsies Gaffer tape to use for my date!! I thought that was soo much fun!

I used my scallop deco scissor to cut that little strip of PP. I find that if I cut my paper to size, then follow the edge with my deco scissor I hsve a much better chance of getting it straight.

We all have those pictures. You know which kind I'm talking about. The ones that get taken of you that are less than flattering, don't show your best side, show you (GASP!) sleeping. DO NOT DELETE THEM!

Look through your scrapbooks. How many pages are about you, just YOU? If you're like most scrapbookers, you probably don't have very many. You have tons of pages about your children, your husband, your friends, the rest of your family. What about you?

During my family Christmas lunch, I relinquished my camera...my big honkin' Fujifilm S6000fd. The camera that practically swam its way to me. I don't easily give my camera to just anyone to use, but I wanted to see part of the day from someone else's perspective.

Here's the photo I was so ready to delete:

I decided to keep it. Why, you might be asking? I thought that it would one day make a good addition to a layout about me....if I blacked out most of it! The photo as it is would have worked in the layout I did, but it didn't convey the emotion I was looking for. I'm not digitally savvy, nor do I have programs such as Photoshop Elements or CS2. But, I do have software that came with my printer. It allows me to do simple things like turn pictures black and white, sepia, or antique. I can solarize a picture or make it a lithograph. I chose lithograph to go with the journaling. Changing the image to lithograph conveyed the emotions I had written in my journaling.

If I had written about the chaos that surrounded me at the time the photo was taken, I might have printed the image on transparency and let the patterned paper show through to convey that chaos. If I was doing a page about me sleeping, I would have just left the image as is.

So what's my point? My point is this: you can take those less than flattering photos and use simple tools in your printer software to change them into something usable. Check it out...your printer just might have the same capabilities!
Library Pocket Valentines Card
by Deanna Koontz

I have been having so much fun with the SR Loveland kit that when I spotted this type of card on another website (made by Danielle Flanders) , I knew I had to come up with a version of my own using my kit scraps.

You will need:
8-1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock
various scraps of patterned paper
piece of hambly transparency
MM glitter chipboard heart
scrap of the lime green lace
approx. 5x6 piece of the SR grid paper for the inside card
rubons and embellishments as desired
MM Love story heart clip (or a clip of your choice, could use a large paper clip with a chipboard, button, heart etc. glued to the top)

I started with this template to cut my cardstock to make the library pocket: (You could also use a pre-made library pocket, or cut down an envelope)

(I have this in a .pdf file, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will be happy to send it to you)

If you cut out this template, trace it on your cardstock, and score and fold on the dotted lines, you should have something like this:

Put adhesive on the bottom flap along all the edges, and add adhesive to the outside edge of the 3" flap. Fold in the smaller flap first, then the larger flap and then the bottom to make your pocket.

Next I cut out some squares and rectangles from my pp and hambly scraps to decorate the front.

Add some of the lime green lace around the edges of the heart shape chipboard using glue dots. Glue all pieces to the front. Add word stickers along the top.

Next I cut a piece of the SR grid paper to be the inside card. I got mine a little shorter than I wanted, so I added another strip of pp to the bottom. I left the top edge as a torn edge and inked it. I added a sticker and rubons to the inside card. Put a MM clip or paper clip along the top.

Here are the pieces together:

A close up of the inside.

Hope you have fun making a card for your Valentine! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Custom Sized Photos In a Flash and On A Budget!

by Denise Ghere

I love having variety in my photo sizes. A wallet size mixed with 4x6 give me some variety and keep my scrapping fresh and fun.  But I don't like to pay the big bucks that some developers charge for wallet size photos.

An easy way to print smaller wallet size photos is to use your Photo editing software.  Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro are a couple popular examples.

Open a new canvas. > File >New >Blank File; 6 inches wide, 4 inches high, 300 dpi resolution, rgb color

open your photos and crop them to 3"x2" by clicking on image, crop.   Set your width to 3" and your height to 2".  Once you have them cropped select the move tool (the arrow) and drag the photo to your blank canvas.  You should be able to get 4 photos to each 4x6 canvas.

If you don't want to crop and you are happy with the image, simply resize it to 3" x 2" by clicking on image, then resize, and enter 3 inches wide, 2 inches high.   Resave your file as a copy and then drag and paste it to your canvas.

Once you have them positioned the way you want, save the file and whala! You can upload to any photo printer and save a bundle!

Fight the Winter Blues

What could brighten your day more than some flowers?? Maybe some flowers and a vase you made yourself!! I used the February Tinkering Ink kit to make these...

I used dome chipboard flowers that have been sitting in my stash FOREVER!!

1. Adhere paper to CB flowers (I used my Xyron and my ATG)
2. Cut and file around flowers
3. Add holes in the center, place pipecleaners in holes and twist
4. cut black Sugar Coated Cardstock to the height of the vase you would like.
5. Glue to one of the covered chipboard flowers
6. add felt ric rac for decoration

See easy and cheery!!

Heart Attack Symptoms in Women

By Dr. Larry Weinrauch

Some warning signs for women. Very few pre-menopausal women have heart attacks, unless they smoke, have diabetes, or are on birth control pills for a long period of time. Smoking seems to be the biggest risk factor:

Nausea and vomiting that won’t stop

Breathlessness (but not sighing) with exertion or especially if it wakes you up at night

Chest discomfort that starts behind the breast bone and radiates to either shoulder or arm, neck, or to the lower (but not upper) jaw

Discomfort in the lower jaw especially if it occurs only with exertion or will not go away

    •   Discomfort in the upper back especially if it occurs only with exertion or will not go away

Discomfort in the chest or back that occurs when doing usual chores after a large meal

Sudden onset of weakness that won’t go away

Sudden racing heart sensation with a very fast pulse

         Sudden loss of consciousness

Physical inability to perform usual household chores

Who is most at risk with these symptoms? The more of these factors that apply to you, the greater your risk:

         Menstruation has stopped

         Smoking

Family history of arteriosclerotic heart disease before age 60

         High blood pressure (even treated)

         Diabetes (even mild, even treated)

         Obesity

         High cholesterol (even treated)
